Problem with Brera and 159 are the frankly quite shitty Opel engines. Both the 2.2 and 3.2 V6 have seriously underdimensioned camshaft chains that will stretch rather sooner than later, they usually last only as long as typical belt, but are really expensive to change. In that sense the 5-cylinder diesel is much much better.

Expected some problems with a new model to the market but the faults on delivery were shocking!!! Some problems have taken ages to be sorted; only just got the driver's seat fixedish.

Got the code cleared when I had it serviced just under 2 weeks ago. Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic engine oil used. The light has yet to reappear .

Alltogether, it's a reliable engine, just not as reliable as the 1.9 or the earlier 2.4s. In comparison, the 10v 2.4 JTD is probably one of the most reliable diesel engines ever made :) I had the Brera with this engine 14 years ago. Had a good time with very few problems. But considering the car you're now buying is at least 14 years older

The Alfa Romeo GTV and Spider were launched in Europe in March 1996 with just two engine options: the ‘Busso’ V6 in 3.0-litre, 24-valve form rated at 230bhp and the four-cylinder 2.0-litre. Although badged as TwinSpark, the 2.0-litre shared only the name with earlier Twin Spark engines which had been based on the long-serving ‘Nord

Brera 2.2 JTS help required. New here and to Alfa Romeo! I am looking to buy a 2.2JTS Brera and asked the seller for a video of start up and tick over before long drive to view vehicle. I am just a bit concerned that the engine sounds more like a diesel than a petrol.

On looks alone Alfa Romeo's Brera should fly out of the showrooms. Continuing the styling trend started by the Italian firm's 159, the extrovert Brera is a fitting car to replace the popular GTV. Looks can be deceiving, though. For all the car's sporting pretensions, it boasts a traditional and surprisingly practical hatchback boot.
Overview. The sophisticated GT coupe is every inch a proper Alfa Romeo and although it may be overshadowed by the newer Brera, it’s still a good choice. Stunningly good looking it has a great interior and is available with some excellent engines, including a diesel. It may not be the best coupe of this size to drive, but it’s great value
Sun visor came loose ages ago. Door handles are plastic and snap off, they're coated with silver alum which flakes off and cuts (replaced 3/4 times).Too much plastic inside. Archaic cumbersome manual turning wheels to lower seat. Top of windshield above glass peels off all on its own (making car look old and shabby).
