I adventurized my 2016 500EXC and did the Continental Divide Ride north to south at the end of July. I started from my home in Surrey BC Canada and rode 2 days of paved highways to the start of the ride in Whitefish Montana. Rode 11 days of the CDR to Antelope Wells New Mexico. Similarly, KTM 2-strokes whilst being very exciting to ride have a competition focus and that’s not what I’m after. Ditto the 350 EXC-F. So, for green lane and trail riding I’m left with the 250 EXC-F and the 450 and 500 EXC – all 4-strokes. In truth I’d not be disappointed with any of the afore mentioned bikes.
Yep, you need to buy an optional map-selector switch (which includes the TC function) from KTM’s PowerParts catalogue ($190). Either that, or buy a Six-Days model, which comes with the bar-mounted switch as standard equipment. It’s a bit unusual that KTM has, in effect, put a paywall in front of this hugely practical TC technology. The KTM 500 EXC-F SIX DAYS is an undeniable powerhouse. Weighing in at a mere 65 lb (29.5 kg), it's not only more powerful but lighter than the previous generation engine too. For 2024, it's been designed with mass centralization in mind, tilting the engine 2° backwards and repositioning the sprocket 3 mm lower. .
