Called LR assistance who came to me and went straight to bonnet area looking at alternator and found belt 'snapped'. Calling back tomorrow to fit new belt, tensioner and water pump belt.

I have a discovery 2 td5. Battery light has appeared on the dash whilst car is running. At the time I lost power steering and my brakes became hard and inactive. I had the alternator changed a couple months ago and I did an alternator test whilst running by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery which killed the engine.
Dec 3, 2010. #5. My concern wud be - if it drains a (70Ah) battery in "a few hours" thats like taking 35amps - 420watts - that's one hell of an interior light . Still, a few build quality issues to be ironed out but overall build quality seemed to have improved a lot. Many of the complaints are also for transmission issues. The Land Rover Discovery 3 and 4 are synonymous with air suspension and electronic park brake problems. C’mon land Rover you need to up your game here.

Swap the pulleys and use a combination of spacers from the two to get the alignment right and it is basicaly a bolt swap however, the cabling on the 200 tdi is really only heavy enough to suit the output (approx 65 amp) from the old alternator whilst the 300 tdi unit is 100 amps. Normaly this is not a problem until your battery is completely

Unfortunately I have encountered the "the ***** Land Rover ****" response from mechanics and auto electricians several times when travelling away from home since I got my first Rangie in 1983 . Interestingly, it has only ever been for minor problems and the tradies have been older guys. Needless to say, I never give them my business.

Jan 2, 2006. #4. put yer multi meter over the battery with the ign off ,check reading then start the engine . with ign off and a full battery you should have about 13.2 volts with engine running you need to have between 13.5 and 15 volts.. i wouldn't want to be messing around with meter leads that close to the fan
