While we’re still on the subject of the Trailroc 285’s grip, it’s worth making a song and dance about the ‘Tri-C Sticky Rubber’ evident in the sole’s construction. By using three sticky rubber compounds here, Inov-8 have increased the shoe’s grip and durability no end. The hardest, most able to take a beating, rubber is on the heel.

The Trailroc 235, while lacking in arch support (which is pretty typical for Inov 8 shoes), has an excellent rock plate and great traction. The ability of the shoe to transmit the "feel" of the trail while, at the same time, protecting your foot without bulk, is without peer in my experience.
